What is AMI?
The Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), based in Amsterdam, was founded in 1929 by Dr. Maria Montessori to preserve the legacy of her work. After the death of Dr. Maria Montessori, her son Mario M. Montessori took over the leadership of AMI, followed by her granddaughter Renilde Montessori. To this day, the Montessori family works closely with AMI.
The vision of the Association Montessori Internationale is to support the natural development of human beings from birth to maturity so that they can become a driving force in society, contributing to a more harmonious and peaceful world.

The Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) remains committed to the mission, vision and values of Dr. Maria Montessori and ensures that they continue to be developed so that as many people as possible around the world can benefit from her insights.

Montessori Deutschland represents and connects Montessori educational institutions, training organizations and national Montessori associations in Germany on the basis of established quality standards. Its aim is to create environments in which children and young people can unfold their individual potential and develop responsibly in today’s world.
The Quality Seal of Montessori Deutschland forms the basis for the QR recognition process for educational institutions and for training courses in Germany.
However, the AMI “Pedagogical Standards” are more comprehensive than the quality criteria set out in the Quality Seal.
AMI‑accredited courses are delivered by specially and extensively trained AMI Trainers, whose qualification goes far beyond the lecturer qualification required in the Quality Seal.
