AMI 3-6 Diploma Course

We are proud to offer the only AMI Course  in Germany, which meets the highest international educational standards.

This course provides you depth knowledge of Montessori principles and their practical application with children from three to six years of age.

Who is this course for?

Were you always considering to do an AMI course?

Are you interested in Montessori education for children aged 3 to 6 years? This is your chance to join our diploma course! The first two weeks can conveniently be completed online from home. The remaining weeks take place on site to ensure high‑quality lectures.

The AMI 3–6 Diploma Course is suitable for anyone interested in Montessori education and seeking a qualified training or further education in the educational field. This course benefits everyone who lives or works with children, especially teachers, teaching assistants, supporting staff, further Montessori teachers (6-12), as well as those with a background in education, psychology, therapy or medicine.

All modules take place from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (with a 1‑hour lunch break).

The course is lectured in both German and English.

AMI Requirements for awarding the AMI Diploma
  • At least 90% attendance in the course  
  • A minimum of 140 hours of supervised material work at the Training Center  
  • Completion of the material albums according to the course guidelines  
  • Production of materials  
  • Completion of 90 hours of observation and 80 hours of teaching practice with children  
  • Successful completion of the written and oral examinations
Examinations

The examinations consist of two written exams and one oral exam. The examination board is chaired by an examiner appointed by AMI. Specific preparation times are scheduled within the course modules.

Completion of the AMI diploma course

After passing the written and oral examinations and fulfilling the AMI Requirements, participants receive an AMI Diploma for the 3–6 age group.

The diploma awarded by AMI certifies that the holder “has studied the principles and practice of the Montessori method for the relevant age, and has passed the written and oral examinations.” This diploma entitles the holder to lead a Montessori children’s house group for this age range according to the principles of Maria Montessori anywhere in the world.

Please note that additional national or state requirements may also apply. Furthermore, the holder is entitled to add the wording“AMI diploma holder” to their official professional title. 


The diploma entitles the holder to participate in all international AMI events and those of affiliated organizations in Germany and abroad. It also forms the basis for the AMI teacher training course for the 6–12 age group.

This diploma does NOT entitle the holder to train others in the Montessori method (note on every AMI diploma: “The holder of this diploma is not entitled to train teachers.”)

Employer Information Bavaria

The Bavarian State Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, Family and Integration stated in a letter dated 22.12.2014, that the [AMI Montessori Diploma can be included in the] “Kita Berufeliste”.

“From this list you can currently find that applicants with an AMI Montessori diploma (891 qualifying hours) for the aforementioned age group in Montessori kindergartens are to be considered suitable for work as an assistant kindergarten
